CASA Volunteers Needed
Capital Area CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Association urgently needs caring adults – especially more men – to become powerful voices for children in the foster care system.
Community volunteers are needed in order for Capital Area CASA to continue serving every child who needs a voice in our community. No special background is required. The first step to becoming a CASA volunteer is to attend one of the following 45-minute orientation sessions at the CASA office, 848 Louisiana Ave: Saturday, July 11 at 10 a.m.; Wednesday, July 15 at noon; Thursday, July 23 at 5 p.m.; Tuesday, July 28 at noon; Wednesday, Aug. 5 at noon; Saturday, Aug. 15 at 10 a.m.; Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 5 p.m.; Thursday, Aug. 27 at 3 p.m.; Monday, Aug. 31 at noon; Friday, Sept. 4 at noon; Saturday, Sept. 19 at 10 a.m.; Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 5 p.m.; and Wednesday, Sept. 30 at noon.

4th Annual Parkinson's Conference
Make your way to the Pennington Biomedical Research Center for this community education event promoting research in Parkinson's Disease! The conference will take place July 18 from 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

CASAS for CASA
Casas for CASA is an annual playhouse fundraiser that provides public awareness and funding to support the work of Capital Area CASA Association. The fundraiser kicks off July 19 with CASA Fiesta at the Renaissance Hotel. Enjoy live music and delicious Mexican food from local restaurants while bidding on hundreds of silent auction items from 7-10 p.m.

Cuts for Kids
Every child deserves to return to school looking fantastic and feeling their best! Bring your children (under 17) to get a complimentary haircut at Remington College during the entire month of August!
Every summer, Remington College helps kids face the prospect of school with a smile on their faces.
In addition to helping students, Remington College also wants to help local schools. Throughout August, Remington College student salons will also be collecting school supplies for local schools. Anyone who brings in a donation – pens, pencils, notebooks, etc. – will receive a complimentary haircut, manicure or pedicure.

This event hosted by Families Helping Families is open to all individuals with disabilities, chaperones, caregivers and family and will feature a jambalaya dinner and live music by Ambush!
Civitan is dedicated to serving individual and community needs with an emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities.

9th Annual Celebrity Waiter Event
Come mingle with LSU and SU Coaches and local celebrities as they compete for your tips at the 9th Annual Celebrity Waiter Event! Held at the L'Auberge Casino Hotel on July 15 from 7-9 p.m., the Celebrity Waiter Event also boasts one of a kind live and silent auction items, along with complimentary soft drinks, beer, wine and food. Food Truck Wround-Up
EFCU Financial will be hosting the Baton Rouge Wednesday Food Truck Wround-up on Wednesday, July 15 from 5-8 p.m. The event will be held at EFCU Financial’s Shenandoah Branch located at 15026 Market Street, near Coursey and Jones Creek (across from Jones Creek Café). During the event, area patrons can purchase delicious culinary dishes served by local food trucks set up in the EFCU Financial parking lot. For each food order placed, EFCU Financial will donate $1 to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank to help fight hunger in the Greater Baton Rouge community! Event attendees are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for collection barrels that will be on site.
18th Annual Swamp Pop Music Festival
The 2015 Swamp Pop Music festival features the finest in Swamp Pop & South Louisiana Music benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation!
But it's not just food - don’t miss the Swamp Pop Music Festival’s Jambalaya Cook-Off sponsored by the Jambalaya Festival Association. Visitors get to sample some of the tastiest jambalaya to be found anywhere in the world when dozens of expert jambalaya chefs meet head-to-head in two separate heats on July 17 and July 18 to make their own gourmet versions of this delicious Cajun dish. The competition is fierce!
The event begins Friday, July 17 at 5 p.m. and ends Saturday, July 18 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center. Other festivities include the Car Show, Poker Run and Pageant. Rockin' For Marjorie
Miraculous Marjorie kicked her way into the world and into our hearts at 27 weeks! She defied all odds and fought her way out of the NICU after several months. At almost 8 months old, she was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma in her adrenal glands and in her liver. She has renewed the spirit in so many and she now needs our help to keep her spirit going strong.
Help Marjorie's fight by attending the fundraiser on August 27 at the Varsity Theatre! The doors will open at 7 p.m., and the Chee-Weez will take the stage at 8:30 p.m.
Tickets are available for purchase on the Varsity Theatre's website. All proceeds will benefit the medical expenses for Marjorie Dempsey.
